Chicago Public Square 2018 07 13
A coward. That's what a woman is calling a Cook County Forest Preserve cop who quit rather than answer questions about his inaction when she was accosted by a racist.
I'm Charlie Meyerson with your Chicago Public Square Newscast.
In her first news conference since her video of harassment from a man triggered by her Puerto Rican flag T-shirt went viral, Mia Irizarry says preserve officer Patrick Conner's resignation makes her happy, but she still wants an explanation why he took no action to defend her:
Outcue:to the light
She also says she'd like the officer simply to apologize.
Another cop's BACK in trouble again. Just days after hicago Officer Robert Rialmo was found not guilty of battery for punching two people in a bar, he was in the middle of more trouble—again at a bar. Police say Rialmo was involved in "some kind of altercation" with three other people at a Northwest Side pub. None were arrested, but the department has opened another investigation into Rialmo, who previously had dodged convictions for shooting and killing two people—including an innocent woman.
The next shoe (well, 24 shoes, really) have dropped in the investigation of Russia's hacking of the 2016 presidential election. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein (styn) says dropped a surprise indictment Friday accusing 12 Russian military intelligence officers of hacking into Clinton campaign and Democratic Party computers:
in June 2016
Rosenstein says the charges don't mean the election WAS hacked:
Outcue:any election result
But it's not a good look for the president. As Rolling Stone reports, the indictment places the first hacking on or about July 27, 2016—the same day Trump said at a news conference—quote—"Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing" in the Clinton investigation.
